The one in the middle is a special one. It goes up if you get on at the bottom, but down if you get on at the top. This is why it's important to only have one person use it at a time :-)

In the mornings it goes down, in the evenings it goes up. It is a magic escalator.

Fin means 'End'. Presumably because that's what you find at the end of a fish.
